The Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage today cancelled the bail granted to the leader of Nawa Sinhale National Organisation Abeyratne Suresh Priyasath alias Dan Priyasad over a case filed in 2014.
The bail cancellation is regarding a case where Dan Priyasad had been accused of making hate speech targeting a minority community in Sri Lanka.
In his Order, the Magistrate stated that since granting bail in 2014, the suspect Dan Priyasad has violated the bail conditions on multiple occassions. The Magistrate ordered that bail be cancelled as per sections 14(1)iii and 14(2) of the Bail Act.
Accordingly, Dan Priyasad was ordered to be further remanded.
Dan Priyasad was arrested by the CID for attacking the peaceful protesters at MainaGoGama and GotaGoGama on 09th May 2022. Bail in this regard was denied to Dan Priyasad on the last occasion pending the order on Bail issue, today.
Senior Attorney-at-Law Shiraz Noordeen together with Pasan Weerainghe and Irsath Mohamed appeared for the virtual complainant of todays bail cancellation application. Senior Attorney-at-Law Jayantha Dias Nanayakkara appeared for the suspect Dan Priyasad.
