Wasantha Mudalige, Ratta, Jehan Appuhamy and several others were named as suspects by the Police.
The Fort Magistrate ordered the arrest of nine suspects for allegedly taking part in protests in the Fort and Thalangama areas in June and for them to be produced in court.
The suspects are Wasantha Mudalige, Lahiru Chathuranga Weerasekera, Rathindu Senaratne who is also known as Ratta, Jagath Manuwarna, Dhammika Munasinghe, the Ven. Raththkarawwe Jinarathana, Eranga Gunasekera, Jehan Appuhamy and the Ven. Galwawa Siridhamma.
The arrests have been ordered based on information in the B reports the Fort and Thalangama police produced in the Fort and Kaduwela magistrates’ courts.
According to investigations carried out by the police, the protests in the Fort police area and opposite police headquarters on the 9th of June and the protests opposite Isurupaya in Pelawatte in the Thalangama police area on the 10th of June were in violation of several provisions of the Penal Code. The provisions are taking part in an illegal meeting, obstructing the work of the police, undue influence, obstruction, causing injury and damaging State property.
The case in the Kaduwela Magistrates Court will come up for a hearing again on the 7th of July
