A fundamental rights petition filed challenging the government’s domestic debt structuring process was dismissed today by the Supreme Court.
The three-judge bench comprising Justices S. Thurairaja, Kumuduni Wickramasinghe, and Mahinda Samayawardena refused to grant leave to proceed with the petition, taking into account the objections raised by the Attorney General.
This petition had been filed by the President of the Inter-Company Employees Union, former JVP Parliamentarian Wasantha Samarasinghe, and five others.
The petitioners had sought an interim order restraining the authorities from proceeding with the domestic debt restructuring affecting the investment, capital, and interest components held in Treasury Bonds and bills by the EPF and ETF.
