Sri Lanka Customs, together with the Narcotics Control Unit of Bandaranaike International Airport, today arrested a French national while attempting to smuggle gold worth over Rs. 80 million into the country.
The stock of gold weighing over 4.6 kg has been confiscated following an investigation, and a fine of Rs. 70 million has also been imposed on the passenger.
The suspect has been produced before the Negambo Acting Magistrate as he had failed to pay the fine.
