The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today ordered Frontline Socialist Party activist Duminda Nawagamuwa to appear before CID in connection with a complaint lodged by Public Security Minister Tiran Alles over a statement he made involving the JVP and Minister Alles during a press conference.

In his complaint, Minister Alles said Nagamuwa had made a statement at a press conference on August 12 that Tiran Alles and the JVP were maintaining an offshore account on a European island, Malta.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered Nawagamuwa to appear before CID on September 12 for the purpose of recording a statement regarding the incident.

The CID conducting investigations into the incident had earlier sought an order for notice directing Duminda Nagamuwa to appear before court since they were unable to trace his whereabouts. The CID informed the court that they are expecting to record a statement from Duminda Nagamuwa as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident. The court had accordingly issued a notice ordering Nawagamuwa to appear before it.

The Public Security Minister had lodged the complaint, demanding an investigation into this statement and alleging that it was false and baseless.S
