The Government Medical Association has written to the President on the credibility of morbidity and mortality data relating to Covid 19.

The GMOA has accused the Epidemiology Unit of its failure to perform its tasks to the required standards. The GMOA has pointed out the Epidemiology unit has not only failed in Disease surveillance but has also failed in five other areas for which they are accountable.

The tasks listed by the GMOA are Disease Surveillance, Outbreak Control, Vaccination Co-ordination, Clinical Management, Operational research, and Monitoring and evaluation.

In the circumstances, the GMOA has suggested appointing six committees under the chairmanship of Dr S.M Arnold, Deputy Director General Public Health Services, to perform the assigned tasks more efficiently.
