State Minister of Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna told Parliament yesterday the Committee appointed by the President to probe the domestic gas cylinder explosions have discovered a change in the composition of the content.
He said lab tests revealed that the content of propane in gas cylinders had been increased either to 47 per cent or 48 per cent. However, the State Minister said the Sri Lanka Standards Institute had failed to reveal this.
“The Sri Lanka Standard Institute had not prescribed a standard concerning the content of gas. It was only at the pressure,” the State Minister said.
“President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has already received details on 400 incidents of gas explosions, and arrangements are underway to pay compensation,” he added.
