Cabinet spokesman Bandula Gunawardene today admitted that the government paid for the charter flight that ferried Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his spouse to Bangkok from Singapore.

The Minister revealed this when journalists queried whether the former President used public money to hire a private aircraft from Singapore to Bangkok.

The Minister said that former Presidents could receive certain benefits under the provisions of the Presidential Elections Act.
