Hearing of Premalal Jayasekara appeal fixed for September 7

  The Court of Appeal today  (09) fixed for September 7, the hearing of the appeal petitions filed by Ratnapura District SLPP Parliamentarian Premalal Jayasekera and two others challenging the Ratnapura High Court judgment convicting them for committing the murder of an individual following a shooting that took place in 2015. The Court of Appeal two-judge-bench comprising Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice R. Gurusinghe fixed the appeal for argument on September 7. Jayasekara and two others, convicted by the Ratnapura High Court for murdering Shantha Dodamgoda when the victim was decorating an election stage in the Kahawatta area. Through their appeal, the three accused-appellants stated that they were seeking the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal to review and set aside their conviction and the death sentence imposed by the Ratnapura High Court.
