The heightened clash between Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and State Minister Channa jayasuamana has left the top officials of the NMRA with no choice but to resign.
Accordingly, the Chairman of the National Medicinal Regulatory Authority (NMRA), Dr Rasitha Wijewantha, has decided to tender his resignation as the Chairman of NMRA.
The clash between the Ministers is as to who has administrative authority over the NMRA.
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has taken the position that a State Minister cannot exercise regulatory power over the NMRA.
Earlier, the Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation Neuro specialist Dr Prasanna Gunasena also resigned, attributing the cause of his resignation to the pressure relating to official duties. Dr Gunasena is a well-known specialist and a member of the Viyathmaga Organisation that put its weight behind the victory of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
According to sources, the Managing Director of the SPC, Lalith Jayakody, has also resigned along with Dr Gunasena.
