Bangladesh High Commission in Colombo commemorated the historic 7th March Speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner. On this occasion, the national flag was ceremonially hoisted at the chancery by the High Commissioner Tareq Md Ariful Islam. The High Commission officials then placed a floral wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation and offered special prayers for him and his martyred family members and for the continued prosperity of the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The messages of the President and the Prime Minister were also read out.

 

A discussion meeting followed where the speakers highlighted the significance of the speech of 7th March in the history of independent Bangladesh. In his remarks, the High Commissioner highlighted the various significant aspects of the speech. He stressed the need for internalizing the spirit of the speech and drawing inspiration from the same in realizing the “Sonar Bangla” as dreamt of by the Father of the Nation.

 

The High Commission officials also joined the live streamed national progarmme in Bangladesh on 7th March graced by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the chief guest.
