A 31-year-old youth arrested for his involvement in encouraging motorists to protest against the closing of roads in Borella for visiting Chinese Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe was today released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect, a resident of Battaramulla was ordered to be released on a surety bail of Rs.50, 000 after being produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court by Borella Police.
The police had initiated an investigation based on a video that has gone viral on social media portraying motorists honking their horns at a passing VIP convoy.
The suspect was arrested for obstructing Police officers from carrying out their duties and aiding for unlawful assembly.
Police further alleged that the behaviour of the suspect posed a threat to the visiting dignitary and his VVIP convoy.
It was revealed in courts that the suspect had previously resided in Australia for nearly 10 years.
