State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe said the government has removed the import ban on 286 items from Friday night
“Imported goods can help moderate prices by providing consumers with options and lower-cost alternatives” , says Semasinghe. He says the government expects that the pricing advantage will be passed on to consumers as quickly as possible.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe, as Finance Minister, issued a gazette notification lifting the import ban on these items on Friday night.
