President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has directed the health sector official to vaccinate people aged above 30 in the Western Province before July 31,

In a statement issued the President’s Media Division said 60% of the people in the relevant age category in Colombo, 47% in Gampaha and 34% in Kalutara Districts already given the first dose of the vaccine.

President Rajapaksa has urged health authorities to vaccinate a higher percentage of the people in all parts of the country before September in a systematic manner since Sri Lanka is in the process of receiving vaccines ordered by the government.

The President was optimistic that Sri Lanka would soon receive the required amount of AstraZeneca vaccines for the second dose for the people who need it. Accordingly, the President directed authorities to make proper arrangements to provide the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to all those who have received it as the first dose.

It has also been revealed that the World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended that a person who had received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine can receive the second dose within a period of up to 45 weeks.
