Justice Minister Dr.Wijayadasa Rajapakshe says that the Judicial Services Commission should investigate the resignation of Mullaitivu Magistrate T. Sarvanarajah.
The Minister said that the Judicial Service Commission has powers to conduct an inquiry as it is responsible for the administration and appointments of judges, including magistrates.
"If any person has influenced a judge, the court has all the powers to take action against the person concerned. If he does use these powers, he himself has to take responsibility for the incident”, the minister said in parliament.
The Minister stated that judges have the power under the Constitution to act against the person who is exerting influence in this way by issuing summons. The Minister questioned as to why the Mullativu Magistrate did not use that power.
