Juvenile offenders involved in murder to get lesser punishment
October 20, 2021
The government has decided to amend the Penal Code and the sentencing policy to remit the death sentences passed on underage accused to a jail sentence.
The Parliamentary consultative committee on Justice has also approved this. Accordingly, juvenile delinquents involved in grave crimes such as murder will not face harsh sentences such as death.
A bill to amend the penal code to give legal effect to this is likely to come up in Parliament tomorrow.
