Colombo Municipal Councilor Mahinda Kahandagama was today ordered to be remanded until June 8 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage in connection with the incidents that unfolded at MainaGoGama and GotaGoGama on May 9.
The CID named Kahandagama the 26th suspect in the Galle Face attack case.
Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama appearing for the CID, alleged that several witnesses have given statements that Kahandama had behaved aggressively with the protesters who marched towards Galle Face Green on May 9. She raised objections to granting bail to the suspect in terms of section 14(1) (b) of the Bail Act.
However, Senior Counsel Jayantha Nanayakkara defending the suspect, told the court that there was no evidence to pinpoint that his client inflicted physical harm to anyone.
Responding, DSG Girihamaga alleged that the suspect had been involved in a crime with common intention after being a member of an unlawful assembly. Taking stock of the situation, the Magistrate ordered to remand the suspect till June 8.
