Kinniya UC chairman arrested and remanded over the ferry tragedy

Kinniya, Urban council Chairman N.Naleemwho was arrested by the Police this morning, was remanded until the 9th of December.
Police arrested Naleem in connection with the ferry tragedy in the Kinniya lagoon on Monday, where six people including, four children, drowned.
Muslim Parliamentarians from the Trincomalee district raised questions regarding the matter in Parliament, while one Muslim Parliamentarian clarified the issue stating, that the government permitted to operate the ferry service.
However, State Minister Lanza denied, he permitted the Kinniya UC to operate the ferry service.
The government meanwhile requested the Eastern Province Governor to investigate the matter.
