Former JVP MP K. D. Lalkantha says that the people should be brought to the streets and the entire country should be brought to a halt since Galle-face-style struggles did not help change the existing system.
“The oppressor will never keep power on a tray and hand it to the oppressed. We should aim to bring the people to the streets against the oppressor”, he said.
He was of the view that bringing people to Colombo and launching protests wouldn’t bring about any changes. He said that when looking at this through political science, these rulers will not give the opportunity to make that change through voting, and it is a situation seen throughout history that the oppressors have never handed over power to the oppressed on a platter.
