Sri Lanka and Azerbaijan are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to modernise public service delivery and strengthen cooperation in public sector innovation.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to enter into the agreement between Azerbaijan’s State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations and Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.

The MoU is expected to be signed during the United Nations Public Service Innovation Forum, scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan on November 5 and 6.

The agreement will provide for cooperation through training programmes, internships and the exchange of expertise aimed at improving public services in both countries.

It will also introduce mechanisms to monitor the quality and efficiency of public service delivery, together with procedures to evaluate services and improve institutional performance.

The MoU will remain in force for three years.

Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government to proceed with signing the agreement.
