The Colombo District Court today gave ultimatum to former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and several others to file their answers before May 2 in connection with the 109 lawsuits filed by the victims of the Easter Sunday attacks.
On a previous occasion a request made by former President Maithripala Sirisena that he be released from these lawsuits had been rejected by Colombo District Court.
The relatives of those who have died during the suicide bomb blasts took place in Colombo and individuals who injured had filed 109 lawsuits before Colombo District Court claiming compensations from former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, former IGP Pujith Jayasundara, former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and several others. The defendants including former President Maithripala Sirisena were ordered to file their answers before May 2.
Accordingly, Colombo Additional District Judge Chathurika de Silva fixed the cases for May 2.
The victims alleged that the defendants including former President Sirisena have failed to perform their official duties entrusted to prevent the terrorist attacks that took place on April 21, 2019 which caused irreparable damages to them.
