Wanni district parliamentarian and TELO leader Selvam Adaikalanathan, who was issued notice by the Jaffna Magistrate Court for engaging in a protest march in the north, declaring the 75th National Day as a day to express opposition to the state, surrendered to the court through a lawyer yesterday.
He was released on bail with a surety of Rs. 200,000. Jaffna police have filed a case against the protestors, including the parliamentarian, for organising a demonstration against the commemoration of National Day in the country.
The court had issued a warrant against the parliamentarian since he had not been present in court when the case was taken up for hearing. It is to be taken up again on October 25.
