The government has allowed the sale of liquor in all safe and secure level 1 Hotels to cater to foreign guests.

Yesterday nearly 650 sailors from two French Naval ships arrived in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the government also moved to keep the Bandaranaike International Airport open for tourists from early June. However, various restrictions are in place to keep the Corona pandemic at bay.

Earlier the government restricted the sale of liquor during travel restrictions and sealed all liquor shops throughout the country.

The Commissioner-General of Excise in a letter addressed to all Assistant Commissioners, has directed them to grant permission to operate the liquor licenses of “Safe and secure Level 1 Hotels” to serve liquor to their in-house foreign guests with controlled access for locals during the period of restriction.

The letter said that all safe and secure Level 1 Hotels should acquire stocks of liquor from licensed wholesale distributors in the area using existing excise licenses.
