Serving Commander Gen.Shavendra Silva will become Chief of Defense Staff from June 1
Maj.Gen.Vikum Liyanage is to be the new army commander. He will take charge from Gen.Shavendra Silva on June 1. Gen.Silva will be Chief of Defense Staff from June 1, the Sri Lankan army said.
General Silva was serving as acting Chief of Defence Staff at the time he was appointed to this new office.
Major General Vikum Liyanage belongs to the Gajaba Regiment. Prior to his current appointment, served as the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
