The Malaysian Foreign Minister assures their fullest support for Sri Lanka to join RCEP.

  Visiting Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Dato Seri Diraja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir assured that his country will support Sri Lanka’s application to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. The Malaysian Foreign Minister assured this to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena during a meeting held at the Temple Trees in Colombo today, October 9. The Prime Minister stated that Sri Lanka’s entry into RCEP would bolster its economic connectivity within the broader Southeast Asian region, and the Malaysian Minister assured Sri Lanka's fullest support in this respect.   The Prime Minister and the visiting minister discussed bilateral relations, with special emphasis on cooperation in regional groupings such as the Indian Ocean Rim Association for enhancing trade and investment cooperation. Referring to the high-level contacts, historical links, people-to-people contacts, geographical proximity, and deepening bonds of friendship with Sri Lanka, Minister Zambry Abd Kadir said his government was looking forward to increasing economic and trade cooperation.
