A new railway station, Navakkulama, will be added to the northern railway line with the resumption of train services between Colombo and Jaffna on July 15. The train service on the northern railway line was suspended with the commencement of the renovation of the track between Anuradhapura and Vavuniya.

Navakkulama is the last railway station in the northern part of Anuradhapura district, and it is located near the border of the North and North Central Provinces.

This is the first time this stretch of railway track has been formally renovated since the line was built by the British. The project was funded under the Indian Credit Line.

India also funded the reconstruction of the northern railway track between Vavuniya and Jaffna earlier.
