Following the flash floods triggered by heavy downpours reported in several parts of the island, the Sri Lanka Navy deployed five relief teams for flood relief efforts in Bulathsinhala, Baduraliya, Lathpandura, and Walallawita in the Kalutara district and Kalawana in the Rathnapura district. Accordingly, the Navy relief teams were continuing their rescue and relief services in full swing as of this morning (June 6, 2023).

In Baduraliya, the Navy was pressed into action to transfer a group of Buddhist monks from Gangarama Viharaya, Baduraliya, to a religious matter and also safely carry a group of schoolchildren affected by floods. Moreover, the Navy relief teams made necessary preparations to provide assistance and relief to the local residents, including schoolchildren, who were affected by the flood in the Bulathsinghala area, enabling them to resume their daily activities.

Following the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the Navy has kept ready an additional 23 relief teams in the Western Naval Command and 10 relief teams in the Southern Naval Command to be mobilised at will.
