Navy seizes more than 800 kilos of sea cucumber
August 06, 2021

Around 820 kilos of sea cucumber valued at 16 million rupees were seized by the Sri Lanka Navy in Kalpitiya on 4th August.
Along with the sea cucumbers, the Navy also seized two dinghies and a lorry which were on the beach in Keerimundalama in the Kaplitiya area.
According to a report on the Navy website, the seized goods and ten suspects have been handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake.
The smuggling of cucumbers between Sri Lanka and India is a thriving trade. Although Sri Lanka issues fishing licences and allows the export of sea cucumbers, India has completely banned their trade.
