A partially new Cabinet was sworn in today before the President sans three key Rajapaksas. The Rajapaksas are Basil, Chamal, and Namal.
However, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will continue to hold his portfolios. Professor G.L.Pereis and Ali Sabry will also continue in their respective positions as Foreign and Finance ministers, respectively.
The new Cabinet, a mix of young and old, is yet to face the scrutiny of the people.
The heavyweights removed are Johnston Fernando, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Rohitha Abeygoonesekara, Gamini Lokuge, Banduala Gunawardene, and Pavithra Wanniarchchi C.B Ratnayake and S.B Dissanayake.
However, former Minister of Media Dullas Alhapperuma has refused to accept any portfolio.
Dinesh Gunawardene was subject to frequent changes in his portfolios within a short period. Earlier, he held Foreign affairs and Education.
