New electricity tariffs start on July 1

The Public Utilities Commission has announced an electricity tariff revision from July 1.
Accordingly, an overall three per cent reduction will be introduced, but there will be further concessions based on the usage categories.
The low-income groups that use less than 30 units will benefit, with a reduction of 26.2 per cent, and all the other groups are also poised to get a concession depending on the number of units they use. The leisure sector will get a bigger benefit of 12 per cent, and religious places are also getting a reduction of close to 3 per cent.
