Northern lawyers stage a protest against Sarath Weerasekara.

  Northern province lawyers today staged a protest opposite courts in the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaitivu, and Vavuniya districts against former Minister Sarath Weerasekera, who, by making a statement in parliament, had undermined the judicial system by way of belittling the judgement of the Mullaitivu Magistrate. The lawyers in protest said that Sarath Weerasekera should respect judicial decisions. "If he presumes any decision given by the Mullaitivu court is wrong, he can seek assistance from a higher court", they said. The court proceedings in many courts in the North were disrupted yesterday morning due to these protests.
