Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene adjourned Parliament until 9.30 a.m. tomorrow due to protests by opposition parties in Parliament demanding local government elections.

Opposition MPs staged a protest inside the House well, shouting slogans and demanding that the local government election be held as planned.

“We want the election.” “Diyawu Diyawu Chande Diyawu,” they shouted, displaying placards.

SLPP members also joined the protest, forcing the government to hold elections. Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has also stated that elections should not be postponed.
