The order in the appeals by Parliamentarian Premalal Jayasekera and two others against the High Court’s decision to convict them for murder of an individual were today reserved by the Court of Appeal
It was alleged that Jayasekara and two others committed the murder of an individualfollowing a shooting that took place in 2015 during the Presidential Election.
The Court of Appeal bench comprising Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice R. Gurusinghe fixed the order to be delivered on March 31.
On July 31, 2020, Premalal Jayasekera and two others were convicted by the Ratnapura High Court for committing murder of ShanthaDodamgoda while being engaged in decorating the election stage in the Kahawatta area.
Through their appeal, three accused-appellants stated that they were seeking the jurisdiction of Court of Appeal to review and set aside their conviction and the death sentence imposed by Ratnapura High Court.
