The order regarding an application made by the defence to release social media activist and the admin of ‘#GoHomeGota2022’ Facebook page Thisara Anurudhdha Bandara from the magisterial inquiry is to be delivered on June 21 by Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Police arrested Thisara Anurudhdha Bandara on April 2 for allegedly attempting to excite feelings of disaffection toward the President and the Government and later released on bail after being produced before the Magistrate.

President’s Counsel Saliya Pieris appearing for the social media activist, submitted that there are no materials to justify his client being charged under Section 120 of the Penal Code.

Mr Pieris argued that his client’s social media campaign was only for non-violent protests, and thereby section 120 is not applicable.

Meanwhile, Colombo Additional Magistrate Keminda Perera ordered the mobile phone and a laptop returned to the suspect. The Court had earlier called for an analytical report from the Government Analyst about these devices.
The suspect had been arrested for committing offences under section 120 of the Penal Code.
He was arrested by the Mutuwal Police for allegedly attempting to excite feelings of disaffection toward the President and the Government of the Republic through a Facebook page named ‘GoHomeGota2022’
