A Pakistani national who pleaded guilty to possessing and smuggling 361 Rs. 500 Indian currency notes was today sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment suspended for seven years by the Colombo High Court.
The accused, Mohamed Thaheer, was further ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 50,000 by Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte.
The accused had been arrested by CID on or around July 15, 2013, in Colombo for possessing and smuggling 361 Rs. 500 Indian currency notes. The Attorney General had filed indictments against the Pakistani national in this regard.
