The Secretary-General of Parliament will receive nominations for the election of the President on Tuesday.

The candidate has to be present in Parliament on the day of the nominations and required to furnish a letter giving his consent.
The Secretary-General of Parliament will act as the returning officer and the election will be held within 48 hours after receiving nominations. Accordingly, Parliament has to decide on the date of the election since the July 20th has already been fixed the election will be held on Wednesday 20th July. When nominations are proposed members of Parliament should consider the eligibility of an MP to contest.
Hence former President Mahinda Rajapksa is not eligible to be nominated.
