President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in a statement, said he had no intention to thwart the right to peaceful protest by the people.
A remorseful President said that the incident in Rambukkana was unfortunate and directed the authorities to carry out an impartial inquiry into the matter.
The President also urged people to desist from violence while protesting.
