Police arrested a Jaffna university student who threatened a shopkeeper with a knife.

Police yesterday arrested a Jaffna University student who threatened a shop owner in Kopai by pointing a sharp knife at his neck.

Police said this undergraduate from the Science Faculty may have tried to instill fear in the shop owner with the intention of extorting money.

The police also found the knife used by the student to threaten the shop owner was a knife that is prohibited from being used in a crowded place.
