Police Media spokesperson, DIG Ajith Rohana states that currently only 4 of the 31 COVID -19 clusters are active, of which only one is fully active.

Speaking at the daily media briefing, he warned that the public must be wary of drug users, as it had been through one such that the virus had spread from Suduwella, Ja-Ela to Nagalagam and Gunasinhapura in Colombo.

Therefore, there is the danger of the virus spreading through drug users and the public is requested to inform the police or health officials if they become aware of any such persons in their localities.  He also asked the public not to harbour any such persons in their homes, even on a temporary basis.  Giving them even temporary shelter would result in the host being quarantined, he said. As well, they will face strict action as per the law.

DIG Ajith Rohana explained that since the first patient was reported on March 11, according to intelligence and other information, the virus has been present only in clusters.

The island-wide curfew which is effective from 8 p.m. today, April 30 is scheduled to be lifted at 5 a.m. on Monday, May 4th.  During this period, and at all times when curfew is imposed, those not required for essential services, or other necessary work, should leave their homes only to purchase food or medicines, he said.  Since the curfew has been imposed, the DIG stated that 2365 persons have been arrested and 11,000 vehicles impounded for curfew violations. In the past 24 hour period, over a 500 had been arrested.

He also stated that though the curfew passes issued so far expire today, April 30th, they will be valid until May 31.
