The Sri Lanka Police using the Public Address system of the Presidential Secretariat, read out article 2 of the Public Security ordinance to the protestors at the Gota Go Home gama.
The announcement said that the government has invoked a countrywide state of emergency and stated that since a curfew is in force, it amounts to a violation of the law to loiter in public places without the proper authorisation of a gazetted officer authorised to issue passes.
