Police have identified 59 social media groups responsible for gathering people to unleash violence on May 9.
On Monday, peaceful protestors at the Galle Face Green came under attack as hooligans armed with clubs and rods stormed the Galle Face Green.
The hooligans came from the direction of the Temple Trees, the prime minister’s official residence.
Police said they are contemplating legal action against them.
