The Supreme Court, determination on the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill has not reached the Speaker yet.
Though Parliament was to take it up for debate and moves were underway to pass the same today itself, the Supreme Court determination is yet to reach the Speaker.
The Speaker accordingly put off the debate on the CPEC bill for tomorrow and, party leaders met to discuss the same.
There had been 19 petitions challenging the CPEC bill. Most of the petitioners stated that the bill in its present form violates entrenched provisions in the constitution and affects the sovereignty of the people.
The Supreme Court has three weeks to convey its decision to the President and the Speaker.
