The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUSL) yesterday approved an overall 14.2 per cent electricity tariff reduction, effective July 1.
Accordingly, consumers in the 0–30 category receive a 65 per cent tariff reduction, while consumers in the 31–60 category will receive a 51.5 per cent reduction. The consumers in the 61–90 category will get a reduction of 24.5 per cent.
Religious places will also receive a 16 per cent reduction in their electricity bills.
The Commission has also directed the Ceylon Electricity Board and the LECO to ensure that the residents of condominiums are billed according to their respective tariff categories.
The CEB and the LECO have also been directed to bill the Local Government authority concerned and the Road Development Authority for the consumption of electricity for street lights.
