SLPP Parliamentarian Prof. Ranjith Bandara said that the government has a responsibility to provide solutions to the disaster caused by the drought spell in the country.
The Department of Agriculture or the Agricultural Insurance Board cannot do it alone, and the country needs an integrated plan to effectively face the drought situation in the country”, he said.
Addressing a press conference in Colombo today, Professor Bandara said that the SLPP is of the view that the government should make immediate intervention to alleviate the impacts of the drought, which has affected 19 districts.
There are many people who do not have access to drinking water. The people who do not have access to drinking water need to fulfill their basic water needs as soon as possible”, he said.
