Police today arrested former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen in connection with the 2019 Easter Sunday attack on three Catholic churches and a few hotels in Colombo.
The Easter Sunday attacks at least killed 279 and injured and maimed a large number.
Police said Rishad Bathiudeen, a Former Minister and leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Party, was taken into custody under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA),
Bathiudeen and his brother Riyaaj were arrested at their homes in a pre-dawn raid conducted by the Police in Colombo.
The government came under severe pressure from the Catholic Church on the second anniversary of the Easter Carnage, commemorated in Catholic churches throughout the country. The Catholic clergy conducted a protest march in Negombo with over 1000 priests and nuns demanding justice for the victims, of terror.
Meanwhile, SJB Parliamentarian Harin Fernando is also facing the threat of an imminent arrest following his remarks in Parliament on the Easter Sunday carnage and its protracted investigations.
