The Harbour Police prevented the Opposition Leader and another Member of Parliament from entering the Police station.

The opposition politicians visited there to inquire about the well-being of the arrested Teachers.

Forty-four teachers including, sixteen lady teachers, were taken into custody yesterday by the Police for allegedly violating quarantine laws.

The teachers took part in a protest campaign near the Presidential Secretariat, demanding an immediate solution to their salary anomalies when they were arrested by the Police.

At the entrance of the Police Station, a heated argument ensued between the Politicians and the Police, after which the opposition politicians turned back.

In Parliament today, the Opposition Leader raised the issue with the Speaker, in turn, said he would look into the matter and pass on necessary instructions.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said the freedom guaranteed by the Constitution is shrinking gradually. He also queried the behaviour of the Police.
