Saliya Pieris PC, re-elected President BASL

President's Counsel Saliya Pieris has been re-elected uncontested as the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) for the year 2022-2023.
Mr. Pieris was first elected as the 26th President of the BASL on February 24, 2021 after securing a clear majority over his rival candidate.
Meanwhile, Attorney-at-Law IsuruBalapatabendi was elected as the Secretary of the BASL for the year 2022-2023.
Saliya Pieris was appointed as the first Chairman of the Office on Missing Persons in 2018. He also served as a Member of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka between October 2015 and March 2018. He also served as the Deputy President of the BASL from 2015 to 2017.
Solicitor General Indika Demuni de Silva functioned as the returning officer for the year 2022-2023 election.
