The Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery was forced to shut down temporarily due to the shortage of crude oil.

This is the first time that the oil refinery had to be shut down owing to the short supply of crude oil.

The closure was attributed to the shortage of crude oil and a ship carrying crude oil is only expected in the third week of December according to trade union leaders .It is only sufficient for 15 days and another vessel is expected in mid-January. They pointed out.

Minister of Energy however, pointed out that there are sufficient stocks in the country and said there would not be a scarcity.

However, people say there would be an island wide shortage of kerosene oil.
