The Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security has instructed the relevant officials to strongly oppose the international travel ban imposed on Sri Lankan military personnel and the Canadian Prime Minister’s false allegations of genocide.
The Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security Chairman, MP Dr. Sarath Weerasekera, pointed out the importance of standing against the international travel ban imposed on military personnel since it affects their morale and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should intervene to resolve this matter.
The Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security met in the last Parliamentary week, and Chairman Dr. Sarath Weerasekera stated this during its meeting.
The Committee instructed the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to collect all the relevant facts necessary to oppose the travel ban imposed on the military personnel of this country and give them to the relevant ambassadors. Sri Lanka is a country where there was a non-conventional military conflict, as confirmed by both Darusman and OICL reports. Therefore, imposing a travel ban on military personnel is also against the Geneva Convention, and the Chairman urged the relevant officials to give this wide publicity.
