Colombo’s skyline has certainly changed in the last nine years. But this outward show of prosperity cannot hide the economic crisis faced by the country.
The Nelum Tower which will cost $ 110 million is a symbol of the last regime’s wasteful use of public funds. Many such vanity projects with borrowed Chinese money may have satisfied the egos of the Rajapaksa family and increased GDP figures but the payback time is now and the ordinary people are struggling to make ends meet.
